That UVA student can suck it! I bitch and moan A LOT on my newish/slightly neglected blog but like UVA dude said - it's cathartic! Plus, many of my posts are geared toward the 0L to give them a REAL picture of what it is like! I scoured the interwebs last summer in search of how to prepare for 1st semester of law school and EVERYWHERE I looked said to relax, do NOT read anything law related, etc which I very quickly grew to regret as the semester waned on!! So, I try to show people what it really is like as a 1L - some days good, most AWFUL!! And I really think I am one of the happier ones there!! :) I really LMAO when you got in to the whole clique thing - that is SOOO my school (Chicago-Kent)!!! I feel like I'm back in high school many days - it is REALLY divided here!! I'm a bit older than you so for me dealing with it was quite painful 1st semester - I'm better about it now! We don't have names for ours, but if I had to, we'd have: the Mean Girls the Gunners the Part-timers the Arrogant Pricks the old moms the IP dorks the "Wait, you got into law school?? wait, you got a 17* on LSAT? NO WAY YOU ARE THAT SMART CUZ YOU ACT LIKE A STREET THUG" group the one I'm in "either willingly left or got kicked out of one of previously mentioned groups and decided they suck anyway so our new group is better" group!!! :) Your school sounds great - our Profs do a once in a while, small group to the bar thing - I like the "mess" idea!! I didn't know that us beer drinking meatheads were called "The Frat". It intrigues me. Is this a widespread term amongst the class? I believe my circle coined the term "the intellectual table" and it was spread by the jolly Mr. Kyle P (who is a friend to every soul in the law school). Respond back in the comments section if you care. Also, would you be one of those new grad-ers? It seems like they have a clique all their own. However, I've always done my best to keep an optimistic attitude about things and to ignore "the sky is falling / the world is ending" mentality that can be so pervasive. Don't get me wrong, law school is ridiculous for numerous reasons. The subjective grading along with the forced curve, and the simple fact that all we're being "trained" to do is to work as appellate court clerks are just three law school absurdities.
